Over the years I’ve found FreshBrick followers are gaga for mid-century fashionable! And a legend in #HamOnt MCM design was Joe Singer.

Joseph Baronislaw Singer was born in Kracow, Poland on March 5, 1924.  His father was an officer within the Polish military and was taken prisoner and killed by Nazi Germany. His household escaped demise and have become refugees. Later, Singer volunteered for the air drive as a navigator.  During coaching one among his legs introduced him to Malton, Ontario the place he had his first style of Canada and ultimately settled together with his household in 1954.
In 1952, simply earlier than his transfer to Hamilton, Joe printed the guide Plastics in Building which enabled him to get a job in England with the Herfordshire County Architects Department, a prestigious agency pioneering in progressive methods and designs. And so started his architectural legacy…
For the following 50 years Joe designed many buildings within the Hamilton space, together with the featured, 5 Penge Court (lately bought) and 140 York Road (presently on the market), plus the Adas Israel Synagogue and Shalom Village Nursing Home. In the years previous to his retirement, he additionally labored as the pinnacle of the buildings and upkeep division for the Hamilton Board of Education, which was then housed in a constructing of his design (now demolished).
