On 15 September 1943, Joan Jackson married her childhood sweetheart Frank Armstrong. Choosing Beaverdams Church as the situation at which to rejoice their nuptials, villagers joined forces to prepared the venue. The results of this effort was recorded in a poem by Violet Kempson (née Patterson) entitled “Fixing the Church”

T’was within the yr of 43
And within the month of June
The Friendly Circle had a Bee
And Things started to bloom.
The church was in an terrible state
It wanted girls’s palms
So the Friendly Circle heard the decision
And shaped a gallant band.
They fell in line and marched to church
With buckets, cleaning soap and tune
With many palms and keen hearts
The process didn’t take lengthy.
They gathered on the assembly home
It certainly was a sight
To see so many who agreed
To repair the Church up proper.
And right here’s an image that I noticed
As I used to be passing by
Those girls positive can cease the clock
Or make the minutes fly.
Mrs. Sim was scrubbing home windows
Mrs. Ruck was scrubbing flooring
Mrs. King was giving orders
There was work to do galore.
Nellie Yates was hanging paper
Mrs. Woods was serving to too
Mrs. Herbert stated from scrubbing
That her knees have been worn by way of.
Mrs. Wade, an ardent duster
Mrs. Kempson slapping paint
Mrs. Essex doing odd jobs
Dot Macrae seemed a saint.
Mrs. King she made the curtains
She and hubby hung them up
And I can see no motive
Why they actually shouldn’t strut.
Mrs. Sykes was so formidable
As she hurried back and forth
Mrs. Dickinson, she marvelled
She might use a paste brush so.
There are heaps I haven’t talked about
Sadie Dickson is one
I’ve right here to say
She did her bit get the job all completed.
There have been those that couldn’t assist down there
But nonetheless they did their share
They helped the work financially
For slackers, they have been uncommon.
So now they’ve the job all completed
They all can sit and relaxation
And know the satisfaction
That they actually did their greatest.
There are curtains on the home windows
There are carpets on the flooring
There is paint upon the window sills
And paint upon the doorways.
The previous Church does look great
It’s clear and candy and pure
We hope it helps the kids
To respect God’s House as soon as extra.
The providers have all been held
Most all people got here
That Church as certainly precipitated a lift
To the Friendly Circle title.
